Captains Report – 2022 Tour to South Wales

28 TAGS members visited South Wales this year on tour.

I want to say thanks to everyone who went on tour this year making it such a great time. We had amazing weather and the courses we played were excellent.

Many groups went down to Wales on the Friday and played an extra course of their choosing. The Puffmobil along with Lord and his crew booked into the Rolls of Monmouth for a lovely afternoon of golf.

Some enjoyed the sun nearer to Cardiff…

Once we got to Mchynys, near to Llanelli the tour really started with a tough but lovely course right on Carmathan Bay.. Lots of water and carries, which required you to plot your way around the course. Plenty of sun though and another warm day..

Day 2 saw us take on Royal Portcawl…

This was a great course. One of the best golfing courses in the UK and No.1 in Wales.. Its a traditional club and not necessarily set up to cater for large groups, with a small but historic clubhouse, but the main reason you play here is to test your golf and even on another hot sunny, only one of us managed to beat the course on handicap scores..! I didn’t have my best round, and German retired – we thought maybe heatstroke, but later found out he was suffering from C-19..!..

In the end an excellent score by Pritch of 39 saw him take the green jacket and after some doubt about who has already had the clown in 2022, I took the clown outfit with 19 points !. Maybe the first time the clown has presented the green jacket – but I will accept my membership of ICOC with respect!

On the Sunday night we all ate together in a restaurant just a few minutes walk from the hotel. It was great to see everyone and again, we all seem to have a good meal and night!

For our final round we visited Pyle and Kenfig – only a couple of miles from Royal Porthcawl, and in some places the two courses backed on to each other. Here we played for the Cookie Cup, on yes, another hot and sunny day!. Although the traditional last group had a well fought match that saw Beaver over haul Pritch’s lead, there was a lovely twist at the end of the day when Wooters, playing in group 3 came through with 42 points on the last day to pip Beaver by one stroke!. A gobsmacked Wooters is seen here receiving the Cookie Cup.. and commiserations to Beaver who must have thought he had one!. At the end of the day it was golf and TAGS that won with a great camaraderie and respect from all that took part!.

Which leaves me to say again, a big thank you to all who came on tour.. I hope it was as much fun for you as it was for me!
